FAQ

Who will be mentoring my student?

Upon submitting the registration form, we will match you with one of our high school volunteers, all of whom are uniquely talented and eager to help younger students. The pairing will be based on the student's needs and interests.

What will my student be learning?

Our tutoring is focused around providing a resource for students, so the content will be highly individualized! Based on what the student is looking for and the student's level, we will create a lesson plan that may involve teaching concepts, answering questions, working on material either the mentor or the student provides (e.g. summer work), etc. The mentor will provide practice between sessions.

How will sessions look like?

Sessions are one-on-one and are catered to the student's needs, so they can look very different from student to student. If you have a specific request, please specify in the registration form or to your paired mentor directly so that we can best serve you. Sessions are typically 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on age.

Examples of how a session can be used:

  • Teaching of a concept that is part of the student’s school curriculum or that they struggle with

  • Q&A about difficult problems the student has trouble with

  • Assistance with practice problems provided either by the student or their mentor

  • Staying on screen while student works and being available for questions or checking answers
